Frequently asked questions

How do i book a reservation?

Bookings cannot be done on the website, as I need to speak with potential clients to understand their pets and their needs. Inquiries must be done via website contact form, e-mail (houndsinthehills.ohio@gmail.com) or by text or phone call. We apologize for the inconvenience, but this makes it so we can speak with you regarding your pet, their needs, our schedule, etc - overall making sure they will be a good fit.

What are the hours for pick-up and drop-off? Does the price change?

We’re open seven days a week from 7 am to 9 pm for pick up and drop off. Due to the fact there are not employees here, sometimes we may not be around at the exact time you need - but we will work with your schedule to the best of our ability. If dropped off after 6 pm or picked up before 12pm - you will be charged 50% off that day.

what is your pricing?

For boarding, our starting rate is $50/day. We require an overnight meet and greet for $30 in order to decide a daily rate by "level".

Level 1 - $50/day

Level 2 - $60/day

Level 3 - $70/day

This level is dependent on the pets medical and behavioral needs. Pets that require more specialized care will be a higher level. If you are unable to do an overnight meet and greet, then we do a flat rate of $60/day for that boarding stay; and it may change going forward after their stay.

If you would like your dog dropped off or picked up from your household, it will require an additional small fee each time due to time and gas.

If you would like your dog groomed, or have a special day out on the town (taking them out to lunch/dinner, going to an event, etc) there are add-on prices for those services!

Nail Trim - $15

Nail Dremel - $25

Bath - $25

Sanitary Shave or Shave Out Mats - $15

Basic Clip Down (shortening & brushing out coat, not a professional breed-specific groom) - $50

Ear Cleaning - $15

Anal gland expression - $20

Pup's Day Out - $30

For drop-in visits, it is $20/visit but can change based on location and amount of pets. â€‹

We will no longer being doing drop-in visits for any animals with time constraints (ex. dogs with no doggie door or pets with meds that need given at a specific time).

We also have other services (medical care, taxi services, wedding services, etc) that are mentioned on our services page.

Are there deposits or cancellation fees?
We require a 50% deposit (for boarding only) on all stays exceeding 5 days or multi-pet stays exceeding 2 days. Deposits must be made within 5 days of booking. Deposits are non-refundable if you cancel within 10 days of your booking date - but if you cancel prior, you will receive a refund. This document is available to read in our boarder section.

What are your requirements for boarding?

We accept all ages of dogs whether they are healthy or have special needs. Prior to your dogs arrival, we will need proof of up to date flea prevention, a negative fecal within 12 months, and current vaccines. We follow AAHA guidelines - a Rabies, DHPP, and 1 year Bordetella vaccines. Flu is not required, and Leptospirosis is preferred. We do understand some dogs have health issues or due to age no longer continue DHPP vaccinations, so if that is the case please provide exemption proof from your vet. All dogs must be dog friendly (with all sizes) and cat tolerant

Are you around all day? Where will my dog stay?

I am a full time veterinary technician and work 4 full days per a week. During the days I am working or if I am not home, dogs stay inside (of course!) and are either kenneled, gated in the a room, or out roaming with the other dogs - dependent on the pack in the house and each dog's personality. On days off, I am around most of the day, and therefore can provide more of a "daycare" setting, if your pet just needs watched for a few hours.

Can you administer medications?

Of course, that's my job! Dogs with a few medications have no extra charge during their stay. Dogs that require more in-depth care (insulin, subcutaneous fluids, many medications, etc) will be considered a "higher level" boarder -- meaning the daily price will be above $50.

Can my dog get hurt or sick during boarding?

Of course all pets can get sick during boarding. With in-home boarding, it's most often due to stress rather than contagious disease - but both are possible. Dogs playing with each other can get hurt or in arguments, just like your child may on a playground. Injuries are rare, but they can still happen and are a risk that you assume when you put your dog around others. If an injury does occur, I am able to treat minor things due to my veterinary experience, but if I deem that your pet needs professional care - you are responsible for any medical expenses for your dog.

As said, arguments can happen and not all dogs love each other. They do not need to be best friends! If you drop off a dog that is extremely aggressive (towards dogs or people) during their visit, we will contact you regarding options. This may mean having a friend or family member take over their care for the remaining time, or finding a boarding facility that has the ability to completely separate dogs. If you think your dog may have behavioral issues, please make a back up plan prior to their stay.

In the event that your pet requires medical attention, we will make every attempt to reach you or. If we are unable to contact you or your emergency contact and we feel your dog needs medical attention, we will transport your pet to their regular veterinarian, if able, to ensure continuity of care. If your veterinarian is not available, I will bring them to my work or to the emergency clinic. A form is required to be signed regarding emergency medical care.

What should I bring?

Please bring your dogs own food, medications & supplements, and if you would like - any cuddly blankets, a bed, or toys that they love. If you think your dog may have anxiety, please consider contacting your vet regarding anxiety medication to be given as needed during your dogs stay. If we do not have kennel space, we may ask that you bring your own kennel with your pet.  We do our best to return all toys, but we are not responsible if a toy is lost or destroyed.

What do i need to do prior to my pets stay?

First and foremost, please make sure you have filled out our documents prior to stay. We also need written instructions regarding your dogs feeding schedule, medications/supplements, any behavioral issues, and where they tend to stay in their own household. Does your dog stay in a kennel? Are they out and about when you are not home? Also, always disclose any important medical history or behavioral issues. We need to know if your dog guards toys or food, or eats things they shouldn't!

Another recommendation from my history as a vet tech - please let your veterinarian know that you are leaving town and that you approve medical care if I need to bring your pet in! It is also appreciated if you can check with your vet regarding approval of anxiety medication, just in case!
